FIRST Robotics Competition team 3971

Welcome to the FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3971 home page. Our home base is the North Buncombe High School in western North Carolina.  2017 will be our sixth year, and we hope for your support in another great year!

I want to help!
“WE’RE BUILDING SKILLS, NOT JUST A ROBOT!”
Mike Bowman, Team Coach and Physics Teacher at North Buncombe High School.

Created by Dean Kamen, renowned inventor and entrepreneur, The First Robotics Competition is an exciting, nationwide competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding experience—and a lot of fun. By inventing the FIRST Robotics Competition, the FIRST programs and competitions provide a rare opportunity for our kids and our community. Participating in a FIRST FRC team allows students to not only have a great time, but learn valuable STEM career skills where most
high school alumni would not be able to until college.

The high school’s robot team is devoted to the pursuit of learning and skill building in a number of areas, ranging from engineering to teamwork to community outreach.  Now celebrating its fourth year, the team has been fortunate enough to win several awards including Highest Rookie Seed, Xerox Creativity Award, and has been a finalist at the regional competition two years running.  In 2015 the team qualified to attend the prestigious National Championship event in St. Louis.

Of course, we seek community involvement and support.  Please click on the button below to find out how YOU can help:
